Seattle, WA: Media Workshop

Event Description:

The Interagency Biological Restoration Demonstration (IBRD) Media Workshop was held on June 26, 2008 in Seattle, WA.

Goal:

This workshop aimed to begin a dialogue with the media that strengthens the regional community's ability to respond to and recover from any disaster.

Objectives:

  • Acquaint media representatives with the primary purpose of the IBRD program and its relevance to community resilience efforts.

Summary:

This workshop encouraged dialogue on the specific topic of a multi-faceted hazard that can be helpful in other complicated medical and science intensive hazards. Speficially, this media engagement consisted of briefings on the IBRD program, the threat and impacts of weaponized anthrax, a question and answer period, and opportunity for dialogue with local emergency managers and public information officers. It brought a better understanding of all the issues by both the media and government, and led to the establishment of a national best practice in media engagement.
