Mexico City, Mexico: Bioterrorism Seminar

Event Description:

The Organization of American States (OAS) Bioterrorism Seminar was held on February 23-25, 2011 in Mexico City, Mexico.

This seminar aimed to foster a learning environment on the interagency coordination of public health, public safety and security, and law enforcement activities at both the federal and state level in response to an incident involving biological materials.

  • Strengthen the capacity of member states to better prepare to resond, in a coordinated manner, to potential bio-terrorist threats.
  • Educate and build capacity on specific vulnerabilities and challenges identified in earlier exercises.

The seminar, sponsored by the OAS and hosted by the Government of Mexico, was a follow-up to the exercise conducted in November 2009 in Cancun, Mexico. During the two and a half day seminar, international subject matter experts delivered 12 academic presentations and participated in one panel session. Approximately 67 Mexican law enforcement and public health officials and 7 international subject matter experts (SMEs) attended the event.
